Finding Filmmaking Books

Library Resources

Stephens Library Catalog - Search the traditional catalog for Stephens College books, videos, and more.

MOBIUS Library Catalog - Search the MOBIUS Consortium catalog and request physical/print books be sent to Stephens for pickup. Books are generally ready to be picked up in two to three work days.

eMO Electronic Books - Search and view over 280,000 electronic books. Entirely full-text.

Search Tips

Search the Stephens Library Catalog to find physical materials and ebooks held at the Stephens Library. The MOBIUS Catalog is a good option to broaden your search for print books to libraries across Missouri.

The phrase “motion pictures” is the subject heading. Try combining “motion pictures and” with a keyword, or a keyword and “in motion pictures” to explore materials on how a topic is handled in movies.

Additional keyword options for searching for materials about film include:

  • film title

  • director’s name

  • film genre or style

Use the advanced search function and search for these phrases as subject terms to find materials about that term, rather than the work itself or material by that individual.

Digital Filmmaking Book Locations

Digital filmmaking books are generally located in the following sections:

  • PN 1993-1999 - Motion Pictures (main floor, Stephens Library)

  • TR 845-899 - Cinematography (second floor, Stephens Library)

Daniel Boone Regional Library also offers films through Kanopy; please note that their selection of films in Kanopy may be different than through Stephens, so it is worth checking both libraries. Kanopy has a unique business model, with cost for the service being determined by patron demand and drawing down from an annually budgeted account.

Keep in mind that you can always ask for assistance with locating a film or submit a DVD purchase request.

Stephens Library offers DVD drives (USB connection) for checkout.

Adding “f:f” to an existing search, or using the format filter, can limit your search to items on DVD.
